Paradox Interactive and Fria Ligan (Free League Publishing) are joining forces for Crusader Kings: The Board Game, which is currently on Kickstarter right now.

Crusader Kings Board Game (Main) - Free League

The game will look to follow the grand strategy elements of the PC game where you will take control of one of the major factions/nations of the period and fight for dominance in Europe. All of this is done in a game time of two to three hours rather than the days you'd spend on the digital counterpart!

Crusader Kings Board Game (Set Up) - Free League

The game will feature a lot of the same things that the PC game has including ways to build and change your family, traits and abilities for each of them, and plenty of battles alongside the political intrigue too. From what gamers have said who attended a recent Paradox event, this seems to get the game just right.

It does look like a devilish game of intrigue and backstabbing alongside valiant Crusades which might end up being the death of your liege. Is it worth it though for the honour you'd garner with the Pope?

Miniatures!

The game also comes with a range of detailed board game pieces in various colours mimicking the different cultures of the period for you to use when playing the game. It could very easily have been cardboard I reckon, but Kickstarter always has to have an added layer of bling.

Each of them looks good for use as board game miniatures, which is all you really need of course, and you could do some painting if you wanted to push the boat out and really pimp out your game.

Crusader Kings Board Game Miniatures #2 - Free League

There is lots more being unlocked through the Kickstarter as well including additional miniatures for backers, more accessories and upgraded items and much more. Keep an eye on it if you like your grand Medieval strategy games!

What do you think of the campaign?
